Abstract

In recent years, the global insurance industry has seen increasing pressure to adjust to swift technological advancements and heightened consumer expectations. Traditionally perceived as slow in innovation, insurance companies are now adopting digital transformation as an essential strategy. Technologies such as robotic process automation RPA, artificial intelligence AI, blockchain, and the Internet of Things IoT are being incorporated into operational workflows to augment efficiency, decrease expenses, and elevate consumer engagement. This study investigates the transformative impact of digital transformation on operations and processes in the insurance sector, with a focus on how emerging technologies shape organisational efficiency, customer engagement, and overall competitiveness. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were gathered from 10 professionals and specialists through in-depth interviews, which were analysed using thematic analysis to uncover patterns and insights. The findings reveal that digital tools such as RPA, online platforms, AI, blockchain, and electronic verification systems have revolutionised core processes, including claims management, customer interactions, and administrative workflows. These technologies not only streamline operations and reduce manual interventions but also enhance customer experiences through real-time services, personalised interactions, and autonomous systems. Moreover, the study highlights the growing reliance on big data and IoT in risk assessment and product customisation, which have fundamentally changed how insurers manage data and develop offerings. However, significant challenges persist, including the high costs of technology adoption, cybersecurity risks, and the complexity of integrating new systems with legacy infrastructure. The research contributes to the growing body of literature on digital transformation, providing insights into the opportunities and barriers in the insurance sector. This study also lays a foundation for further academic inquiry into the long-term implications of digitalisation for organisational performance and workforce dynamics in the insurance industry.
