Abstract

Human capital is the pivotal of organizational effectiveness and the most valuable asset available to an organization is its people. Employees are crucial assets for any organization and retaining them will contribute to organizational productivity and competitiveness. In today's work environment, supporting the employees’ welfare is vital because it ensures that they stay working hard in achieving organizational objectives. The aim of this study was to examine the articles and previous studies on the influence of benefit packages on employees’ levels of satisfaction. The study used a qualitative approach to probe the influence of material benefits. Several research articles relating to publications on the two variables were obtained. A content analysis approach was applied to analyse data and information. Studies relating to qualitative research consisted of interviews and focus groups while quantitative studies consisted of structured questionnaires. The literature review revealed that most of the studies relating to the nature of both material benefits and employee satisfaction mainly focused on organizations and tertiary institutions. The empirical findings of studies relating to this research showed a positive correlation between benefit packages and employee satisfaction. It is recommended that more studies be done in other industries such as agriculture and the military on the relation between employee benefit packages and the level of satisfaction.
