The persistence of multidimensional poverty in rural Nigeria calls for innovative community-based financial solutions that move beyond individual income support to long-term collective transformation. This study investigates the long-term impact of grassroots microcredit programs on community wealth-building, using secondary trend data from 2014 to 2023. Community wealth-building is defined as the cumulative development of productive assets, cooperative resilience, and intergenerational economic security. The study adopts a documentary-based methodology grounded in Community Economic Development Theory, Institutional Theory, and the Asset-Based Approach. Using trend analysis, key variables assessed include household asset accumulation, cooperative savings mobilization, enterprise longevity, reinvestment practices, and loan default rates across multiple rural communities. Data were sourced from institutional records including microfinance bank reports, cooperative society databases, and national statistics. Findings show that grassroots microcredit programs, when locally embedded and institutionally supported, significantly enhance communal financial capacity, enterprise sustainability, and reinvestment into public goods. However, program impact is moderated by factors such as financial literacy, community participation, and localized governance. The study concludes that microcredit can catalyze structural community transformation when aligned with participatory frameworks and national financial inclusion strategies. It recommends integrated rural finance models that strengthen cooperative institutions and support community-driven development goals, in alignment with Nigeria’s NFIS and the SDGs.
