Abstract

This study investigates the impact of green operational practices on the performance of manufacturing firms in Lagos, Nigeria, with a focus on energy-efficient processes, waste reduction initiatives, sustainable sourcing, and green product design. Using a survey research design, primary quantitative data were collected from 160 employees across two leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms - Nestlé Nigeria Plc and Flour Mills Nigeria Plc. The data were analyzed using multiple regression techniques to test the hypothesized relationships between green practices and firm performance dimensions including production efficiency, environmental value, competitiveness, and product acceptance. The findings reveal that all four green practices significantly and positively influence firm performance, thereby rejecting the null hypotheses. The results align with the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory, suggesting that sustainability-oriented practices function as strategic resources that enhance efficiency, reputation, and competitiveness. The study concludes that integrating green operations into core strategies is not only environmentally responsible but also economically beneficial for firms operating in emerging markets. Policy implications highlight the need for regulatory support, industry collaboration, and investment incentives to accelerate Nigeria’s transition towards sustainable industrialization.
