The study assessed the contribution of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to global market expansion and international competitiveness. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are becoming more and more important to international competitiveness, cross-border commerce, and global economic growth. SMEs are increasingly contributing to international value chains, export diversification, and worldwide market expansion as global marketplaces become more linked. This study evaluates how much SMEs participate in foreign markets, the strategic elements that affect their competitiveness, and the obstacles that stand in the way of their internationalisation endeavours. By employing a qualitative approach that blends quantitative survey data with qualitative insights from document analysis and interviews, the study pinpoints important factors that influence SME global expansion, such as managerial competencies, innovation capability, finance availability, digital technology adoption, and integration into global supply chains. The results show that SMEs play a major role in export growth and competitive differentiation, especially when they are backed by robust innovation strategies and digital adoption. Their potential for internationalisation is, however, hampered by issues including high operating costs, restricted access to foreign financing, complicated regulations, and fierce global rivalry. The study comes to the conclusion that coordinated initiatives comprising legislative support, targeted capacity-building, enhanced access to international funding instruments, and the promotion of digital transformation are necessary to increase SME contribution to global market expansion. Policymakers, SME practitioners, and international development stakeholders are given suggestions to improve SMEs' sustainability and global competitiveness.
